Wooden Underarm Crutches clipartCRUTCHES 4 KIDS DRIVE . . .

Have you ever wondered what to do with all the old crutches and canes in your attic??  We have the solution!!
Crutches 4 Kids is a new, non-profit organization based out of Manhattan which encourages kids to help other kids in need by recycling crutches.  The mission is to provide crutches for childen around the globe who do not have access to assistive ambulatory devices (such as crutches and canes) but need them to walk.  The organization will be run by a national network of students who will help collect used crutches and will have them distributed to third world countries, such as Kenya and India, where there is a significant need and few resources.  The Bell PTA will begin collecting crutches and canes in marked bins in the foyer beginning Friday March 5th through Thursday, March 11th.

Let's Get Cookin'
"Teens who eat dinner with their families five or more times a week have half the risk of substance abuse than those who eat with their families two or fewer times a week", according to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA). A family meal is defined as the entire family sitting around a table, sharing a meal for a designated period of time (at least half an hour). An unhurried breakfast or Sunday dinner count as family meals too.

To enhance the ability to have family meals together, the Bell Nutrition Committee is creating "Fun Family Recipes" for the Bell community. For added "together time," you can involve the kids, having them help to prepare these simple recipes. The important message is to have a meal together at home. Enjoy, and look for our recipes every month, here on the website.
