M is for May and Mother’s Day.

On March 31st, Suniya Luthar, Professor of Clinical and Developmental Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University, spoke to our community regarding The Risks of Raising Children in Affluent Communities.  An article featured in NewCastleNOW features her key findings.  Dr. Luthar is currently conducting a national online survey to explore the inner lives of mothers.  Women play many roles: spouse, friend, worker (in and out of the home), an individual with various hopes and dreams.  Her research hopes to shed some light on the needs, fears and coping strategies women utilize when doing all that is required of them.

This May, celebrate mothers everywhere by participating in this online survey.  It takes approximately 30 minutes, your responses are anonymous and you will be contributing to a greater understanding of the individuals who are moms.  The more we understand how as mothers we are succeeding and struggling, the easier it will be for our children to balance all their future needs and desires.

Survey results should be available to review this summer (2008) on the web site.
